Did you know …? World food prices rose for an eighth consecutive month in January, hitting their highest level since July 2014, led by jumps in cereals, sugar and vegetable oils, the United Nations food agency announced on Thursday. The Food and Agriculture Organisation’s Food Price Index, which measures monthly changes for a basket of cereals, oilseeds, dairy products, meat and sugar, averaged 113.3 points last month, versus an upwardly revised 108.6 in December. The December figure was previously given as 107.5.

Did you know …?  Eurospar retailers have posted their own version of the ‘Jerusalema’ dance challenge – the craze that’s captured the imagination of the world, from yoga instructors in Tibet to Gardaí in Templemore, and beyond. According to the retailer, in a novel way to inject some added fun into their days of serving the local communities, Kernan’s Eurospar, in Newtowncunningham, in Co. Donegal, and Liddy’s Eurospar, in Ennis, Co. Clare, recently posted their versions of  ‘Jerusalema’ to their social-media pages.

Did you know …? Swedish retailer ICA posted a 5.4% increase in sales in January, compared to the same month the previous year. Sales totalled SEK 10.3 billion (€1.02 billion) for the month. ICA noted that like-for-like sales also went up by 5.4% for the month, reports ESMmagazine.com. In terms of the performance of the group’s various banners, ICA noted that its large-scale Maxi ICA Stormarknad arm saw a 9.2% increase in sales (+8.2% like-for-like).

Did you know …? Amazon’s Italian arm has rolled out the Amazon Fresh service in Milan, offering a same-day grocery delivery option. The service will initially be available to Amazon Prime customers in Milan and surrounding municipalities (including Cologno Monzese, Rho and Opera). It will be expanded to Rome and other Italian cities by the end of the year. Amazon Fresh offers over 10,000 SKUs, including fresh produce, meat, seafood, and a range of products exclusively sourced from Italian start-ups.
