Two businesses are sharing a space in Woodlawn that will host a grand opening Saturday.
Trove Design Shop and Melissa Jane, a licensed massage therapist, will hold the event from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 5532 1st Avenue N.
Trove Design Shop is a gift and homewares shop featuring ceramics, handmade jewelry, cards, art, books and décor items. Graphic designer Karen Gathany, the owner, completed Create Birmingham’s Co. Starters entrepreneurship program last fall.
“I love visiting unique little shops when I travel and I felt like Birmingham was missing a well-curated, artsy shop like this, » Gathany said.
Trove began as a pop-up shop in a SmallBox Company shipping container in Railroad Park last year. It features handmade and made-to-order items, with several crafted by Birmingham artisans, including ceramics by Civil Stoneware and letterpress greeting cards by Big Wave Paper.
Behind the shop is the studio of Melissa Jane, an LMT available by appointment. She previously practiced massage therapy at yoga studios and wellness facilities in Birmingham and Vestavia Hills. She uses Swedish and deep tissue massage techniques.
Taking part in the grand opening event will be the Wild Honey Flower Truck. There will be fortunes typed on an antique typewriter from the Typewriter Forest, local makers, cake and special offers.
