Western Carolina vs. Furman preview

Catamounts is a fresher team that has played three games last fall. West Carolina lost them all, losing to people like East Kentucky, North Carolina and Liberty, but failed to score more than 17 points in any of these games.

The attack on West Carolina is likely to be led by Carlos Davis, although Will Jones performed best of the four defenders he saw action last fall. At the moment, it looks like Davis is going to get a nod as a starter, which would be his first year leading the team. The 6-3, 215-pound sophomore seems to be already behind his team and head coach.

« He does some things you don’t coach … He has a natural, God-given ability. He has just this ‘it’ factor in him, » Catamounts head coach Mark Speir said of the young signal.

“You just don’t wake up and be great,” Speir added, referring to Davis. « We preach it all the time, and it reminds him that if I want to be big, I have to have money every day. You know, and I think it says a lot about who he is. Every day he’s going to remind himself where he wants to be. . «

Catamounts completed their 2019 campaign with an overall value of 3-9 (2-6 at the Southern Conference), and they are working to improve the eight games they have in early 2021.

Paladins, on the other hand, have eight returning starters from their 2019 team. They finished 8-5 (6-2 in the Southern Conference) and scored 33.5 points in the attack. They made it to the FCS playoffs in the 2019 season, losing to Austin Peay, 42-6, and are poised to win it all this year with several beginners returning.

Furman senior guard Reed Kroeber revealed where the team’s main focus is this season. “The mindset is that we’ve spent so much time getting to this point, it would be stupid to do something that would jeopardize this,” Kroeber told Greenville News. « Everyone – from fifth-year-olds to freshmen – have spent a lot of time coming here. »

Guy senior and offensive lineman Jordan Harris agrees. “I think we’re 430 days the last time we played,” Harris said. “For me personally, the return came back to the completion we started. It has won the conference championship, going in the playoffs as far as we can and ranking higher on the note than in 2019. ”
